I’ve heard a few people in the astrological community say that they don’t like the idea of diversity being shoved down their throats. As one person said recently, “I like diversity that evolves naturally, is (built) by relationships and mutual trust not today’s idea of diversity achieved by lack of trust, demands, entitlements and divisive identity politics.” Yet, I’ve heard similar sentiments in the board rooms of astrological organizations and on internet message boards. Let’s be real. These folks aren’t talking about diversity evolving naturally. They’re talking about keeping the status quo until IT decides to change. But Frederick Douglass said, “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and never will!” History almost shows exclusively that change and diversity happens as acts of power, either by conquest or cooperation. Here’s a chance at cooperation.

These are diverse scholarship winners and some faculty at last year’s NORWAC conference. NORWAC has quickly become one of the most diverse astrology conferences in the world. Thanks to people willing to make it happen. Well, here’s some news about this year’s NORWAC and diversity scholarships.
We’re offering SIX full and partial conference registrations to astrology students who are underrepresented at astrology conferences. We also have about $300 to assist with food or lodging. (If we exceed our current scholarship fundraising goal of $3500, we’ll be able to give more!)
Qualified applicants, of any age, can be physically challenged, a member of a historically marginalized ethnic, gender or sexual minority, or an intersection of any of the above.
Statements should be sent to Samuel F. Reynolds at email@example.com by February 15th, 2018. Your statement is your application. Please feel free to email with any questions or concerns as well.
We will notify applicants of their awards by Feb. 22nd, 2018 to attend the conference.
