At Home

Samuel L. Jackson as “Sit Yo’ Ass Down” Saturn in Capricorn

With today being Christmas, there’s a good chance many of you are reading this at home. Or you’re with people who make you feel at home. That’s wonderful since Saturn has also come home to Capricorn. What does it mean for a planet to be at home? And once home, what can we expect from Saturn?

Dignity and Domicile

The image below is often called the Thema Mundi, the story of the world or a chart of the world at its creation. Of course, this isn’t to be taken literally as a planet can’t be in two signs at once.

Thema mundi

This diagram is believed to be the earliest basis for how seven planets, visible to the naked eye, were assigned homes or domiciles for each 12 signs of the Zodiac. Starting with the Moon and Sun, the Queen and King, respectively, of heaven, we move to the next fastest planet, Mercury all the way around to Saturn at Capricorn and Aquarius, opposite to the Moon and Sun in Cancer and Leo. The dignity of each planet in its home, then, is based on a geometry of speed and visibility. Each planet, except for the Royal Sun and Moon, were given a night (more receptive) home and a day (active) home. Capricorn is Saturn’s night home, because Capricorn is a receptive Earth sign. All Earth and Water signs are receptive while all Air and Fire signs are active. Aquarius is Saturn’s day home, then.

Many astrologers seem to think that rulership or a planet’s home is based on similarities between the nature of a planet with what we know of a sign. That’s now believed to be an error. Many of the common definitions of a sign now have taken on the qualities of the planet. For most of astrology’s history, planets have been more important than signs.

Saturn in Capricorn

Last week, I posted a mock exit interview with Saturn in Sagittarius. Now, Saturn’s in Capricorn and will be there until 2020.

To know how Saturn in Capricorn will affect your chart, you’ll need your astrological chart. You can get that here. If you already know your chart, then you can consult with an astrologer, like me, or others. You can also do your own research by looking up in which house Capricorn falls in your chart. For instance, Saturn is now in my 11th house of groups, networks, friends and associates. I already know big changes are brewing there.

In terms of the worldly big picture, Saturn in his own sign attempts to firm up ideas, beliefs, and actual physical constructs. As the judge, in his own home, he also symbolically cleans house and will tear up traditions that have weak foundations. We could call him the good farmer: tearing up weeds and seeding crops to harvest later.

He might just as easily knock down walls as he builds walls, as he did in 1989 with the Berlin Wall, for example. If, in Sagittarius, we think and dream about it, then in Capricorn, we will build it. For instance, Tim Berners-Lee, father of the world wide web, thought of the hypertext transfer protocols that became the basis for linking documents while Saturn was in Sagittarius 30 years ago. But it was while Saturn was in Capricorn that he started laying the groundwork of networks that became the world wide web. We’re likely to see similar grand projects.

So, I’m glad Saturn’s home. We likely all have better foundations to build. Saturn marks this as a time to get to work. But not today. Enjoy the holiday!

Read on for the SkyCodes for your particular moon, ascendant, Sun or key planet of your chart.

CAPRICORN
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

Perhaps the week starts off heavier than you’d like for this first full week of your birthday season. But your outlook will get brighter mainly because you will make it so. Like you mostly have done in the past. A part of you probably resents that. Yet, imagine if you didn’t have that will of yours? And even that’s not all due to you. Because where did that come from? You could assign that to God, the gods, or good genes. It doesn’t matter. You have this for which to be grateful. Your self-reliance is what allows you to do as much as you do. But it’s your gratitude and faith that will steer you to do more than you even know you can!

Affirmation:
I am grateful for my self-reliance and ability to create my own fun and happiness at times.

AQUARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

Take extra care to boost your immune system and get plenty of rest. I’m not saying this because I see viruses heading your way from the heavens. (For fun, here’s the etymology of the flu.) It’s because during this last Mercury retrograde cycle and now with Saturn in Capricorn, you’re likely to feel a rush of feelings and stresses that you possibly had on the backburner. When they move to fore, then your body has to be ready to handle all of that. If you’re taking good care of yourself, then you’ll swing through this week just fine.

Affirmation:
I take good care of my body as I become more aware of issues and feelings I might have repressed.

PISCES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

Though astrologers often just focus on your sign’s dueling fish, you also belong to a community of others or a “school” of other fishes. Your friends and community will likely take on greater meaning for you now. You likely need to prune out the people you think of as friends who really are more associates…or less. But you don’t have to go around wielding a symbolic axe. Concentrate more on the people who feed your soul. Don’t feed the relationships that leave you drained. Let them instead drain away.

Affirmation:
I give more loving attention to those who feed my soul than those who leave me hungry or worse. .

ARIES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

Although the term, “capital projects,” is used mainly for large-scale government projects like building bridges or a museum, I’d be willing to bet that you have one of your own. You’re ready to do even more “big things.” Just remember that capital doesn’t just describe the scale of the endeavor. It also details the kind of funding or support for it as well. Stack resources and connections as you build toward something big. Want a house, for example? Then firm up plans and strategies for making that happen smoothly and cost-effectively. The answer is not always to “Just Do It.”

Affirmation:
I build the capital of resources I need to create “big things.”

TAURUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

Your week might get off to a sluggish start, especially if you’re travelling. Don’t get stuck in a rut over a first impression. Sometimes first impressions, whether you’re on the giving or receiving end, are not the lasting or best ones. In our pursuit for pleasure or simple comforts, we can forget that the world doesn’t necessarily owe us those things. The world doesn’t exist only to soothe and entertain you. You must bring the party, too. Or even be your own party until others catch on. Persevere and you will have a lighter weekend.

Affirmation:
I persevere when pleasure doesn’t find me or I don’t find it at first.

GEMINI
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

Those born with Mercury or Gemini prominent often love variety. But if life were always varied and changing, we’d all be bored or profoundly insecure. We must have some continuity. Some stretches of “same ol’, same ol’.” We must have a past and a present that spans toward a recognizable future. That all seems straightforward enough until you realize that you’re not (and can’t be) in control of everything. We must remember that to have continuity we must also find successful yet precise ways to change things up…as we can. You don’t have to feel trapped by consistency and continuity. Or that you’re going to die from boredom. Just be clear your vision of the future matches your mundane methods to create it.

Affirmation:
I embrace consistency and continuity as I create more of the future I want.

CANCER
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Moon in birth chart

Ease into connecting with others this week, because you likely won’t receive the affirmation and support you crave now. You don’t have to come to any snap judgments about loved ones. Some folks might, indeed, be selfish as you’re tempted to claim they are. Others, though, are genuinely busy with issues of their own. It won’t do you any good, though, to make your dissatisfaction about them. Give the love you need to yourself. Take yourself out for a date. Or have a spa day on your own. Loving your own company is good practice for the fine art of teaching others how to love you and enjoying their company.

Affirmation:
I embrace enjoying my own company as an opportunity to learn better how I can teach others to love me.

LEO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Sun in birth chart

Before you write out your new year’s resolutions for this year, dig out the ones you made last year. If you can’t find them, that says something. (A different story if you just didn’t do them.) How did you do? If you’re like many people, you might say you didn’t do that well. That’s because many focus on resolutions to do new things. But many of the successful resolutions focus on how we improve things we’re already doing. In other words, an affirmation of what you’re already doing right, a stroke to the ego, will motivate you to do more of it. Resolutions, though, can often read like someone telling you what to do. Even if that someone is you, and most folks don’t like that. You especially don’t. So, stroke your ego for what you’re already doing well, and improve on that.

Affirmation:
I praise my current efforts in order to raise my expectations and ability.

VIRGO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

A simple pleasure might seem more difficult than usual. For instance, let’s say you love to write for fun. But you find it oddly stressful now. But perhaps you don’t know your stakes in the activity have changed. They’re probably higher now. You want more from your investments. You want to reach a new level with a hobby or side hustle. That new level could be financial, greater skill, or both. Or you might want to know how to have better orgasms since your recent ones aren’t just enough anymore. Welp, be serious about your fun, then.

Affirmation:
I am more serious about getting more out of my fun and pleasures.

LIBRA
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

AYou want to lay the groundwork for larger projects and goals. But you don’t feel like it. Especially at the start of the week. You’d rather feel warm and fuzzy with lots of love and appreciation. Yet, you feel you’re not getting your fair share of that either. Your impulse might be to shut down and just go through the motions of whatever you must do. But it would be better to recognize the control you have over your feelings. They don’t all have to be “things” that happen to you. You can train your mind to create certain feelings, like how Pavlov’s dog would salivate at the sound of a bell.

Affirmation:
I control how I feel, not what others do or don’t do.

SCORPIO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

It might be better to share your real feelings with close friends or to write them in a private journal. Perhaps some of your thoughts are too emotionally charged for general consumption, with some folks even saying they’re on the darker or heavier side. That doesn’t mean you should clam up. But you should consider carefully what you say to others…or how you say it. Someone not familiar with your brooding moods might not know how to handle them. So, it’s best if you manage them first.

Affirmation:
I keep a close eye on my brooding rather than have the brooding be everything I see.

SAGITTARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

With Saturn now fully out of your sign for the next 30 years, you’re likely to feel somewhat lighter. That’s good because the new and improved you needs to build up his/her funds and merge many of your multiple (and likely disjointed) efforts and interests. Focus is the key word now. That happens one step at a time, though. So, don’t rush to fulfill even one goal. Enjoy each step of making a thing happen, big or small. Of course, you’re up for the long haul!

Affirmation:
I focus on tying together more in my life to support me better financially.
