“Being Impeccable”

Be impeccable, astrology, horoscopes, weekly horoscopes, 2017 horoscopes, lunar eclipse, Leo, Aquarius, Mercury, retrograde, Mercury retrograde, Virgo

On Monday, we have a partial lunar eclipse, the first of two eclipses this month. Then on Saturday, Mercury retrogrades. Both events seem to freak people out. Unnecessarily.

I believe that the best way to use astrology is with consideration, with thoughtfulness. The word consider has astrological origins. Yet, many panic when they hear an eclipse is coming. You might even say that eclipses were once viewed as the original horror show. “A Dragon has eaten the Moon! The Sun! We’re all going to die!” I’m not fully exaggerating. Even today, Islamic mullahs offer communal prayers for eclipses. There aren’t many other natural events that call for this.

Monday’s lunar eclipse is between the dignity of the Sun in Leo and the integrity of the moon in Aquarius. Leo reminds us how our innate sense of honor and self-respect is important. Aquarian integrity is how we hold responsibility for our uniqueness and highest values when we connect with others different from us. With a lunar eclipse above us, we have to hold space for both Leo and Aquarius. We have to honor self-respect and uniqueness while maintaining our highest values and connectivity.

The Mercury retrograde throws in an important nuance. We have to think about how we connect one point or a person to another. Often, we’re in a rush to gloss over finer details.

That’s why I feel Don Miguel Ruiz’s first agreement from his best-selling book, The Four Agreements, is so apt now. As listed in the pic above, the first agreement is “Be impeccable with your word.” Indeed, that does mean say what you mean and mean what you say. Hold up your self-respect, but not at the cost of another. Keep your promises nice and shiny.

Yes, that can be hard. It’s especially hardest to keep promises we make to ourselves. We say privately that we’re going to lose weight by a certain date. Then we don’t. We might not even remember the promise. We have only ourselves to hold accountable. Yet, how often does that prove not enough?

This eclipse will break open a lot of that. It will shine a light on all the lies we tell to ourselves and perhaps to others. So, are we going to be more invested in the lies we tell or the truths we hold dear? That’s the challenge the Sky Codes lay out for us. Only you can answer that best.

I’ve found it helps to write down your goals or promises and put them somewhere you can see them regularly. Guilt about failing your goals won’t help, in my experience, either. It’s better to understand how and why you didn’t meet them. Maybe you didn’t really mean what you said. Perhaps you said what sounds good rather than what feels real. That’s why the dignity of who you are has to be matched with the integrity of what you believe.

LEO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Sun in birth chart

You will have to stand and deliver, for sure. If you shuck and jive around what you’ve promised, even if only to yourself, then you’ll likely feel the cost of that in some tangible way, whether that’s financial, energetic or in terms of time. If you couldn’t make something happen, then it’s important to do a few things. First, let relevant folks know you can’t. Next, become clear on why. Chances are the fault isn’t from some great blemish on your character. So, spare yourself the guilt trips. The fault is more with your thinking. Perhaps you reached for million-dollar dreams on a threadbare plan that wouldn’t support earning a penny

Affirmation:
I fulfill promises from a place of grounded integrity and clarity.

VIRGO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

They say, “honesty is the best policy.” Except when you’re playing poker. Or you’re late to head out and your partner asks about his or her wack pants once more after ten earlier changes. Or…and so on. That doesn’t mean you must become a liar. But discernment of the truth is the best policy-maker. Use your sharp analytical skills to assess a situation and work the truth accordingly. Sticking to principles without thinking about your clear goals will create unnecessary delays. Work your principles with mindful practice.

Affirmation:
I wield discernment with whom and how I reveal truths.

LIBRA
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

Your true power is not your niceness, as my wife recounts in her recent articles on your sign. It’s your ability to be considerate, and that’s not the same as niceness. You aim to please when you’re nice. Yet, to be considerate is to weigh all things in the balance, including yourself and your pleasure. Niceness could have you doing things that aren’t good for you to do. Or even as good for the other person. Like when you give your favorite niece a bunch of candy to please. But it’ll be your sibling who will have to nurse her to health that night after she’s eaten all the candy at once. How nice is that after all? Weigh the need to please with what supports all the moving parts something is connected to.

Affirmation:
I am more considerate than nice.

SCORPIO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

Something feels out of alignment between what you revere as your highest of values and what happens in your everyday life. Some measure of that dissonance is normal. I wonder if a Scorpio wrote this 80s ad tagline for a deodorant: “Never let ‘em see you sweat.” Maybe not, because you might have also added “Or cry…be tired…frazzled…” and more now. In other words, you’d insist on looking cool under fire in all circumstances. And that’s when you’d be doing too much. You have to carve out a safe space with someone or where you can sweat or be in a funk. Work to keep the lines open with that outlet or friend who allows you to vent without judgment. You’ll need that in the weeks ahead. Then you’ll be able to appear more impossibly inhuman to others with greater ease.

Affirmation:
I am attentive to the places or people who allow me to be fully vulnerable.

SAGITTARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

Your big ideas might need to be a little smaller to fit better in this world. Understandable if that makes you nauseous. Perhaps you feel like you’re selling out to alter any part of your dreams. Yet, if you don’t do it, are you living up to the integrity of your visions if you can’t fulfill them? Yes, dare enough to face the impossible. Yet know you’re also creative enough to fuse the possible with the probable. Weigh well if keeping one feature of a dream project is that essential if the fight for it jeopardizes the whole thing.

Affirmation:
I can create the impossible by fusing the possible with the probable.

CAPRICORN
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

At your best, you’re a master at taking calculated risks that look like whimsy. Or worse, gambling. Yet, you should know when you’re gambling and when you’re not. A big risk is likely coming up that you must understand and weigh out. You’re gambling when the risk is greater than your ability to keep the risk under control (and the reward). For instance, that’s why buying 50 cheap tickets can give you a leg up on risk in a raffle, especially if the reward is greater than the cost AND those tickets increase your chances. So, make sure you’re doing the most to keep a risk under control. Don’t hope it’ll get better. Ensure that it will. Or avoid it altogether.

Affirmation:
I know I need to take a risk now, and I’m an excellent risk-taker.

AQUARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

Sometimes life is as simple as heeding clear messages when they show up. For instance, pay attention to how energetic you feel after speaking with someone regularly. If you feel drained after talking with him or her, somehow your dynamic costs you. This doesn’t have to become an evaluation of the other person, though. Start with an honest appraisal of your own emotions and body. Perhaps he or she looks like someone who’s caused you pain. And this causes a block in your energy. Or you dole out a lot of energy to fend off your own annoyance with this person’s habits. It’s time to change your dynamic. Build up more reserves of vigor. Or talk it out.

Affirmation:
I wisely monitor and modify my energy with people in my life.

PISCES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

Many people don’t know they can opt out of Mercury retrograde. That’s because too many surrender control to what appears larger than them rather than focus on where they do have control. Pay attention to the areas of your life where you evoke “them” or “it.” Lead more sentences (and actions) with “I.” When speaking with others, you can lead with either you or I statements. For example, “I want to go to lunch now. Can you go?” That’s way different from leading with “Let me know if you want to go to lunch soon.” As you reclaim more power in your day to day routines, you’ll likely feel an increase in energy too.

Affirmation:
I claim more control in my life…and then more energy.

ARIES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

In your near relentless pursuit to do or go, you might forget how many various levels of being you have. For instance, it might strike you as odd to think that sometimes the healthiest thing you could do one day is to skip the gym or have a cheat day. Your body might need nurturing in other ways. Same holds true for your mind and heart. You might miss the company of a friend, for example. So, instead, of your usual Sunday brunch hook-up, make it a bowling date. No one needs to teach you, of all people, how to be spontaneous and change things up. Yet, you might have to be more creative with how you attend to more dimensions of yourself at once.

Affirmation:
I am attentive to multiple dimensions of myself at once.

TAURUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

People often throw the phrase “confirmation bias” at “pseudosciences” like astrology. But you can apply that to anything you know or believe you know. It’s when you decide that nothing new can be introduced to change your opinion. Yet, that doesn’t automatically mean your opinion is right or wrong. Be open to hearing others out. Or receiving the latest information. Others will better respond to your opinions if they feel heard. You might also better address any opposition by knowing the details of their opinions.

Affirmation:
I can circulate fresh ideas in my mind without my own opinions becoming stale.

GEMINI
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

Don’t take any disturbances to your flow too much to heart. Yet, that doesn’t mean you should only stay in your bubble to keep your own brand of chill. You’re not really in a Zen zone if you can’t keep it when things are not Zen. Open up, not close down. Yes, that’s, of course, easier said than done. But what will help is not to take things too personally. You can still be in a good mood after someone rudely dismisses a kind gesture. With this week’s Mercury retrograde, perhaps lead with questions rather declaratives. Like, “Hey Johnny, I noticed you didn’t take any of the doughnuts I offered this morning. What do you like?”

Affirmation:
I can still be in my Zen place in unZen situations.

CANCER
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Moon in birth chart

There are three “water” signs of the Zodiac: yours, Scorpio, and Pisces. These were also called the mute signs in ancient times. Before you balk, hear out the logic. They’re called mute because we don’t hear most creatures that live in water. Water, in astrological terms, relates to feelings and subtler currents of energy. You might be more submerged in those than usual. You’re not so much mute now as muted. You don’t necessarily have to scream to be heard. But don’t be afraid to double or even triple your efforts, in multiple ways, to communicate.

Affirmation:
I make more effort to communicate when I’m deeper in my feelings or my own world.
