Truth: A beautiful and terrible thing

Truth, Neptune, retrograde, Full Moon, Last Quarter, Mercury, square, Saturn, beautiful, terrible, responsible, illusion, delusion, bubble burst

Last week’s Sagittarius Full moon brought with it a celestial tow-truck to take honorable Jupiter, Sagittarius’s ruler, out of his retrograde. As the ruler of THE straight shooting sign of the Zodiac, Jupiter has a special interest in the truth and oaths. It’s important to keep both.

But “the truth…is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution,” according to J.K. Rowling’s much beloved Dumbledore. This wisdom about the truth becomes even more salient as we head toward the dark of the moon at Saturday’s last quarter.

Trickster Mercury has a few things to say about this, too. He first weighs in when he has topsy-turvy swing of a square with weird Neptune on Tuesday. When these two planets get together, there’s a tendency to bend the truth…or make it vague. Be on the watch out for this, including with yourself. Like telling yourself that you’re only going to watch ONE episode of your favorite binge-able show. That’s before you look up and it’s five hours later.

Then Neptune retrogrades on Friday. Weird might get a little weirder. It’s also a time when there’s a stronger interest in piercing mysteries or any other veils over the truth. This is when we might feel most the danger of the truth and prefer our illusions in reaction to just that. Like hearing Jack Nicholson’s Colonel Jessup from “A Few Good Men,” scream, “You can’t handle the truth!”

Perhaps that’s why the week ends with Mercury having a face-off by opposition with cautious Saturn. What we learn as the truth in our lives requires patience and care. Choose your words carefully if you have to confront someone about something. Take your time as you study or prepare for something work related. Be detailed in how you care for what you must learn or know.

Be mindful of truth’s remarkable beauty. Then respect it like the possibly dangerous thing it can be.

Read on for the SkyCodes for your particular moon, ascendant, Sun or key planet of your chart.

GEMINI
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

The idea of progress often isn’t as straightforward or attractive as we’d like. Like truth described above, you must treat progress with respect and caution. You’re more likely to err on the side of underappreciating the progress you’ve made than overestimating it. It won’t help to blame yourself or another for dashed hopes. The best way to look honestly at your progress isn’t fully by the empirical measure of it either. Trust more the quality of your experience. You might learn and grow more by getting a project back on track than if it had kept chugging smoothly along. Keep your head up.

Affirmation:
I measure true progress by how I grow, not only by how something measures up for others.

CANCER
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Moon in birth chart

What most non-Muslims don’t know is that it took 23 years for the Prophet Muhammad to receive the Qur’an, the book that guides the lives of Muslims. He received the first verses of the Qur’an during this month of Ramadan. It likely won’t take you as long to put together insights you need to keep your life together more. But perhaps Muhammad’s timetable can lessen some of the pressure you put on yourself to have everything together right now. Schedule a little more time to hear your own divine messages.

Affirmation:
I reserve more time to tune in so I can tone my life better.

LEO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Sun in birth chart

It’s okay if you don’t have as much patience for small talk. That doesn’t mean you wield the right to make everyone, including yourself, get deeper. Or shut up. Most religions forbid idle chatter because you end up talking about things or people that aren’t your business. Or that you don’t know enough about. Be more purposeful with your speech. Listen to how you or others communicate. You’ll gain a clearer sense of not only what you must do. But you’ll also better understand of who or what’s been in your way of getting it done.

Affirmation:
I turn down the idle chatter to turn up my productivity and respect for others.

VIRGO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

This service-oriented ideal of Virgo might be a slight misreading of what it means to minister to someone. Your sign’s ruling planet, Mercury, is the cosmic template for what it means to be a minister. Yet that doesn’t mean everyone has a right to assume you’re on a mission for him or her. You can look at your obligations to serve, in some shape or form, as coming from “On High,” just like Mercury’s duties would come from Olympus. Or your own higher sense of mission. Be sure your first, best duty is to that sense of mission. Don’t ensnare yourself in the busy work of others before you’ve checked in on that.

Affirmation:
I have a mission to serve a good that’s known in my heart, not set only by the needs of others.

LIBRA
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

Direct more of your imaginative and creative powers toward what happens out of view than in public. Keep more of your thoughts closer to your chest than allow them to burst out. You’ll need some of this inner tension to feel in touch with your environment. As you feel in tune with it, you’ll just know where to make changes and how. But the more you fritter your time and energy in idle chatter, the less you’ll feel the truth of that connection. Others might want to speak with you more. But be sure they’ve taken time to resound within before they use you as their sounding board.

Affirmation:
I keep my ears attuned within to be more in touch what’s happening in my environment.

SCORPIO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

Despite your best attempts, according to one lay mathematician named Thomas Bayes, you can never be 100% certain of anything. But using “Bayesian” thinking, you can become more certain of something happening only as you have increasing evidence for or against it occurring. The only way to keep the “evidence” coming, though, is to stay open and perceptive. I’m rarely worried about you being perceptive. The open part slightly worries me. Be particularly open when assessing your finances, budget, or projected cash flow. Use Bayes’ logic not to spend money you don’t have. Or to believe you’re in more of a bind than you are. Stick with the evidence and your confidence will be more solidly based.

Affirmation:
I stay open to the evidence for what’s probable rather than sticking to the only possibility I want to entertain.

SAGITTARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

Perhaps no matter how idyllic your home was or is. How many all your dreams are fulfilled. How neatly lined up all your metaphorical ducks are. Perhaps you will always feel the roar of adventure and restlessness calling you. You will have to find a way to love this hard truth just as fierce and hard as it is. That roar pumps the wildness that flows through your veins. It’s what keeps your daily life supple enough to enjoy some domestic pleasures. Or to trust some quiet, still moments out on a date or with a cherished family member. But you can’t have too much of it. So, don’t even try to lie yourself into a lull. It can only last so long.

Affirmation:
I love and honor the roar of adventure the flows through my veins, even when I’m content.

CAPRICORN
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

The tangle of very ordinary things might get you to break out in a cold sweat. Words either have no meaning or too many meanings. Once simple chores or tasks seem way out of proportion. They either seem a repetitive waste of time. Or they seem as large as snow-capped mountains, ready to bury you in an avalanche at the slightest sneeze. You might not even feel comfortable enough to be paralyzed by all of this…nonsense. Perhaps because you’ve already lived through feelings like these…when you were a child. And like an open child, you have to be willing to infuse all of it with a little magic. Enough to excite the repetitive into recreation. Or relish a feeling of invincibility to tackle tasks with mysterious protection. Is it completely true? No. But it also doesn’t have to be. It never was, even as a child. It saw you through, then. And can do it now.

Affirmation:
I infuse more magic that is child-like in my too-grown-up life.

AQUARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

It’s a fair knee-jerk response to scoff when the wealthy say they don’t need money. Or when New Age gurus talk about money as energy while you know your dollars power their brightly lit speeches and book jackets. But you know in your bones that at the heart of every “real” thing in this world is a dream. An idea. You don’t have to fear or rationalize why you have or don’t have that “real” thing when you’re hooked into the dream. And maybe you’re not hooked in for fear that you’ll lose what’s tangible. This circular reasoning will have your head spinning. Come back to center with nurturing your dream. Not fretting because you’re not seeing enough hard evidence. Correction: you’re not seeing enough hard evidence…yet. Believing is often the way to seeing.

Affirmation:
Believing in my dreams is the best chance of seeing them in the “real” world.

PISCES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

Lights might feel a little too bright now. You perhaps want more cover, more shelter. You don’t want to see as much. You might not want to know as much. You want to push back the hands of time. Yes, you do, indeed, want the impossible. It won’t work to try shame yourself out of these feelings. You’ll just want it more. But it might be better to use these feelings as a gauge for how close you are to a truth you must face. If these feelings flare up when thinking something, then you’re hot on the trail of truth. You might not indeed hate your job, for example. Perhaps you hate instead all the paper on your desk. Localize the real problem rather than blanket too much of your life with it.

Affirmation:
I use key strong aversions as a divining rod for specific problems that lurk deeper.

ARIES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

Some of your best moments will be while alone. You probably will get more done. You’ll feel calmer. And you’ll be clear enough to have some inkling on how to improve your already outstanding performance. That doesn’t mean you have to work hard at being a hermit, though. You’ll do better if you use your alone time to create more space to engage others another time with less stress. Perhaps it means getting to the office an hour early for precious alone time. Or even leaving a noisy office to become that “army of one.” Do what it takes. Then take your Zen-fueled self back to others who can’t or won’t venture off alone to get what you have.

Affirmation:
I use Zen-alone time to create more time to share with others.

TAURUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

There are, at least, two ways to invest in and cultivate your network better. The obvious way is to spend more time and energy on the people who matter. Perhaps it’s doling out the cash and time for your quarterly power lunch with a colleague. But the other way to improve your connective power starts with seeing yourself as the chief asset. You’re a key brick in the foundation of anything you’re building with someone else. Commit to buying something that steps up your appeal to others. It doesn’t need to break the bank. It might be a stylish or funky phone case that you bring to your power lunch date, for example.

Affirmation:
I cultivate and invest in important relationships, starting with the one I have with myself.
