“Ressentiment”

ressentiment, Sun, Neptune, horoscopes, weekly horoscopes, 2017 horoscopes, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, retrograde, Aries

Longer than usual intro. Busy heavenly dialogues this week.

“Ressentiment” was one of those words I used to love to wave around in my 20s. I was steeped in the bad writing of postmodernism at the time. Words like “ressentiment” had a heady allure & power. I remember thinking then those kinds of words, like “deconstruction” itself, could literally tear down walls.

Resentment or envy doesn’t do the word justice. It’s sentiment or feeling collapsing in on itself like a house leveled by an earthquake. Here’s a screenshot image of a more technical definition offered by Wiki:

ressentiment, horoscopes, weekly horoscopes, 2017 horoscopes, Neptune, Venus, Sun, conjunction, Pisces, Aries, Uranus, Jupiter, So, in short, you could describe ressentiment as scapegoating. Or it’s the impulse to diminish a culturally recognized distinction by those who don’t have that distinction. Like when folks who supposedly have less of strength of will question others who have it.

If that sounds like how some folks talk about political correctness, then you understand why I stepped away from using the word in the first place. It can become hard to tell who’s zooming or projecting on who.

All this is what comes to mind when I think about this week’s star aspects. The shining Sun conjoins again with cloudy Neptune on Wednesday. I’ve written on this before. Overall, the planetary pair-up signifies mixed feelings and signals. Gabby Mercury makes the same conjunction on Saturday for pretty much the same effect.

Fortunately, the face-off between optimistic Jupiter and inventive Uranus on Thursday can inspire fresh ideas and approaches. We can see and seize opportunities where crisis rises first. But the real grand event that prompts the most thinking about “ressentiment” is the Venus retrograde that begins on Friday.

I’ve talked about the implications of Venus retrograde for Black Americans before with the help of my buddy Nick Dagan Best. There’s the increased possibility of a reversal of affection and connection on personal and public levels. Yes, we might be talking wider divisions than we already feel now. But perhaps we can better answer the problem of what these star stirrings, especially Venus retrograde, express with questions instead of “ressentiment”: How do you return to the source of real power in your life? Does that power affirm life and love or destroy them?

Venus is love and life affirming, overall, even when she’s retrograde. If your sense of power demands repressing another, then you can only have ressentiment for the lost privilege to abuse another. That doesn’t affirm love or life. That’s oppression. Likewise, if your sense of power only comes from projecting the worse on another, then your ressentiment will be an inability to understand and appreciate your own ugliness. There’s no valor in humility, for example, if your pride in your “modesty” eclipses it.

In other words, we sometimes impose hard feelings onto other people to feather our own failings. That’s bullshit. That’s probably the basis for every ism-schism in our lives. On a more immediate, personal level, this becomes the worst kind of passive-aggressive behavior. We sabotage the relationships that might be good for us without voicing what we truly feel. Or we pick up an old rugged cross of self-negation on which to crucify ourselves daily and bleat when no one seems to care. Then get pissed when people offer nails for our daily cross out.

No doubt about it. The wake of last Sunday’s eclipse and this Saturday’s retrograde is all about sidestepping ressentiment to embrace life and love affirming power. But you have to start from the origin of all true power in your life: your desire before it was chained to something or someone else. The freedom won’t come from focusing on the chains. Or to whom or what you are chained. It’s remembering you have a key of your own. You don’t have to fret about someone else’s.

Read on for the SkyCodes for your particular moon, ascendant, Sun or key planet of your chart.

PISCES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

You might zone out more than usual this week. That distant look in your eyes might look like your mind has transported elsewhere. Or like you’re downloading a transmission from afar. Both could be true, even at the same time. Your best bet would be to earmark time to check out on purpose to download (or upload). Your intuitive antenna is sharp. You’re hooked into The Source like you haven’t been for a minute. Honor that with giving time and energy to look closer at your past, present, and future. Pull out your old Tarot decks. Write down an odd dream. There are premonitions and visions attempting to come through.

Affirmation:
I create space and time to zone in rather than appear zoned out to others.

ARIES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

Something is hatching from deep within you. There’s always room for improvement for anyone and anything. But this likely feels different. This “new thing” is likely true star power. Real star power really isn’t just the ability to shine like a star. It’s the gift and graciousness to know how to make others feel like they’re beaming too. You’ll have to look deeper at others and allow them to look closer at you. You’ll have to risk vulnerability. Pride can’t be a shield. But, then again, you won’t need it. You’ll exude radiance. And when you are the light, truly, all around you feel (and are) lit.

Affirmation:
I exude light and others feel lit.

TAURUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

Your pathway to having and feeling more over the next few weeks will come from giving more freely. One way to do this is through more volunteering or charity work. Visit the sick. Or do something that you love to do for a friend for no charge or just because you can. You’re cultivating the power to feel supported without fear. Or without thinking your support only comes from getting back what you give. On some level, it might seem this life lesson only pertains to the people around you. Like last week when I discussed your crew. But this lesson is bigger than that. It’s learning to trust more of life itself. It’s your own willingness to be and do good that in its own way makes life better for all of us.

Affirmation:
I am inspired to give because I feel the support life freely gives me.

GEMINI
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

Empathy and understanding often allows you to see people as they see themselves. And that’s not always the warm, fuzzy feeling we expect empathy to give. Sometimes when you take an imaginary walk in someone’s shoes, you see he’s wearing platforms because he feels so damn small. Or your co-worker is always so nice because she doesn’t feel like she has enough power to ask or reach for anything directly…and she resents everyone for it. Now’s not the time to go wig-snatching, though. Take it all in, including your own blindsides.

Affirmation:
I let empathy teach me more about the strengths and weaknesses of others and myself.

CANCER
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Moon in birth chart

Feed the geek in you. You’ll need that well-fed and stoked geek to cope with changes and challenges with your career. Don’t dwell too long or much on feeling the who or what that’s behind those changes. Carve out space daily to piece through all the wisdom and knowledge you’ve gained from sinking down late-night cyber-rabbit holes. Perhaps even talking about some of the random facts you’ve gleaned will help you see what’s useful. You might also research more an opportunity that surfaces. Don’t rush too fast into it, though. Keep munching on it.

Affirmation:
I reflect on the knowledge and wisdom I’m gaining to piece together solutions for career challenges.

LEO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Sun in birth chart

Sometimes your virtue and goodness have to be their own reward. The more you expect others to appreciate what you do, the more likely you are to be disappointed. This doesn’t mean you should shrug off ingratitude. Or suffer people’s trash behavior. But you’re pressed now to look closer at your motivations first. Not only why or how others respond. That’s where you can get distracted. When you’re clear of mind and heart, then what others do will appear more like gravy than what has to feed you.

Affirmation:
My goodness and generosity is not dependent on those to whom I give. Both start and end with me.

VIRGO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

To “empower” someone is to help him or her access the tools needed to fulfill his or her desires. To be an enabler, though, is to be the crutch for someone not matching your efforts with his own. It’s hard to know whether you’re empowering or enabling sometimes. But there is a subtle difference: everyone maintains his or her own sense of power with empowerment. Perhaps there is a particular relationship where it’s time to become clear which thing is happening. It’s also possible that you’re not quite as empowered yourself as you believe.

Affirmation:
I nurture relationships where everyone grows in power and ability, including me.

LIBRA
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

Life might take on more of a surreal quality. Perhaps like how you might feel if you’ve ever taken Theraflu. Or something that makes you feel like you’re wrapped up in soft yet transparent gauze. But this requires vigilance rather than surrender. You’re not vigilant for “reality.” Reality is under renovation for you. The relaxed feeling you have for what’s on the outside requires you to be more aware what’s happening within. Your reaction time might be off because you’re learning new ways to react. Don’t become obsessed with thinking something’s wrong with you or other people. No quick fixes for you now. You’re moving toward a new idea of wellness and wholeness.

Affirmation:
I am vigilant to the voice within, even as all without seems like muffled noise.

SCORPIO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

One of the best values for reason is to know its limits. Not everything can and will make sense. Not everything even should make sense. Your love for pistachio ice cream from Baskin-Robbins, for example, is a preference and a fact. It does not have to make sense. It has its own truth. Extend this notion to other dimensions of your life, like knowing when a relationship has peaked or you’re ready to go back to school for a higher degree, and you’ll see that doubt and looking for tons of reasons are unnecessary. Perhaps you fear being whimsical. Fair enough. But make sense of the steps you must take, not necessarily the journey that calls you from the floor of your soul.

Affirmation:
I strive to make sense of how to fulfill what my soul desires, not my soul.

SAGITTARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

One way to see Dorothy’s Oz adventure, either from “The Wiz” or Baum’s original tale, is that a girl dreams of a far off place only to appreciate “there’s no place like home.” Of course, for you, an incurable traveller of mind and body, this might sound more like a horror story. But letting your mind travel far readies your soul and body for more. See, we’re led to believe that Dorothy made peace with all the troubles she had at home from her dreamlike journey. And that was it. Yet Dorothy’s journeys were just beginning. Once you figure out more things at home, the call for adventure beyond your home’s doors will come.

Affirmation:
I ready my mind and soul at home and in my dreams for more beyond my door.

CAPRICORN
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

Perhaps no type of literature resists definition as much as poetry. That’s why there’s no unquestionable authority to tell you that what you write or how you think isn’t poetic. Especially if you’re speaking from your soul, as you need to do now. You might indeed write poetry now. Doesn’t matter if you frequently do or never have. Or perhaps poetry comes out in how you think or speak. Free yourself from linearity. That’s only important if the sense of what you have to say must speak louder than the soul of what’s said. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that you’re expressing your soul wrong. There’s no one else who can express your soul but you.

Affirmation:
I let my soul speak its own language to those willing and able to listen.

AQUARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

We often tend to overestimate what we feel we have in abundance. When we have time, we can often lose sight of how much time we have. When we feel flush with cash, we can easily lose track of how much we spend or have spent. Look hard and clearly at your resources. Assess how much time you do spend doing things rather than guessing or projecting. Look closer where your money actually goes rather than where you think it goes. An important look at your resources will help you improve your daily flow and efforts. You might see how you can shave 5 minutes off your commute by grasping first that it can be shorter.

Affirmation:
Accurate accountability of what I have leads to gaining more of what I want.
