In my nearly 10 years of practice as an astrologer, I’ve found that people usually have a lot questions and concerns about their consultation, especially if it’s their first time. This page is to address some of the bigger questions you might have about a consult with me and the more practical issues like what services do I offer, how much do they cost, and directions to my place.

What can I expect astrology to tell me?

What kind of info do you need to do a consultation?

What if I don’t know my birth time?

What types of consultations do you offer and how much do they cost?

Where are you located?

Are there any extra fees?

How do I pay you?

How often do I need to consult with you?

What can I expect astrology to tell me?

First, a brief word about me and my relationship with astrology. I came to astrology first as a skeptic. I was an academic, pursuing my Ph.D and I found it very hard to believe that planets could spell out my fate.  But I was blown away and baffled by my first astrology reading. Yet I spent the next 10 years attempting to unmask astrology as a fraudulent art. Well, obviously that didn’t work. But that doesn’t mean that I turned off my brain. I still think very actively and critically about astrology as an intuitive art.  I also look at astrology as part of an overall spiritual framework for my life that includes a belief in God. I can’t say that I can describe easily what I mean by God here, but let’s say that I believe in an active sense of the Divine in our lives.  I also believe that your God-given life is your God-given responsibility, not Saturn’s or Pluto’s or any other planet.  I see the planets as our wandering guides, not our lifelong masters.  Astrology is a great tool for understanding what guides are active and present in your life to better fulfill your life purpose with greater pleasure and joy.  I believe “Fate” has two arms. One of them is your own. One arm wrote the instructions that came with your birthday suit, but you still have build your life with the other arm I help you read the instructions.

What kind of info do you need from me to do a consultation?

Most times, I need your birth date (including year), birth time (including am or pm) and place (as in city). If you’re from the Caribbean, be sure to give me your city, not your parish.

What if I don’t know my birth time?

There are several things that can be done. First step is to ask a parent or family member who might remember when you were born.  However, if you have no idea of the time or any kind of approximation, then the next step depends on where you were born. If you were born in the US, you can contact your city’s or state’s department of vital records.  If you were born in one of the five boroughs of NYC, you can start here:  http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/vr/vrbappl.shtml.  Please be sure to request the long form of your birth-certificate, or the form that has your birth time on it. That information does not come automatically anymore.

I can also rectify your chart if you have a rough idea when you were born, like between 3-6pm on a specific date.  Rectification of a chart means that I will send you a questionnaire for you to fill out and email back. I will be asking for dates or months with the year when significant events happened in your life.  From those dates, I can work backwards to see if I could have predicted some of these events by “composing” a chart based on the birth time range you’ve given me.  The tighter the time frame, the greater the possibility of accurately “rectifying” your birth time.

What types of consultations do you offer and how much do they cost?

It starts with a consultation. A consultation is a conversation I have with you for either 30 or 60 minutes, using astrology. We talk about the cosmic cycles you’ve undergone and are undergoing to get a picture of where to go next. There are several different forms of astrology I use in a consultation. I sometimes even mix in a few of them, depending on the needs of client. Here are some:

Natal I use this form of astrology 98% of the time. With it, I explain your unique set of instructions based on the time, date and location of your birth. From your “natal” chart, I can forecast what are some likely (or unlikely) events that may surface in your life at particular times.

Horary This method of astrology is most useful when you have a very specific, time-sensitive question or issue with which to contend.  How it works is that an astrologer creates an astrological chart to examine one very specific question that may not be easily addressed from your natal chart (or your unique set of instructions).   This form of astrology is like most other forms of divination you may know, like Tarot or Ifa from the Yoruba or Santeria traditions. A sample question would be, “Will I get the job I interviewed for on Tuesday?” You can see this question is very specific and time-sensitive. Another thing to note about horary astrology is that it should be something important and specific to you or your life. It’s not for asking, “Will the Jets win tomorrow?” unless you’re on the team or a coach. Horary astrology doesn’t care if you have money on the game, for example.  If an issue or question is not directly your concern or business, then this practice will be of little use to you. If you’re interested in this form of astrology, I could coach on how to ask your question to yield the most helpful result.  For instance, “should” questions are to be avoided because you’re seeking to divine an action that’s squarely in your control or ethical power. A “should” implies that this action is out of your control. If that were true, then asking a horary question would be useless anyway.

Electional I use this form of astrology to figure out the most favorable and best time to “elect” when to start or do something, like have a grand opening, a wedding, or other significant action. If it’s something that has a beginning or an ending, astrology can help you time a good time for it.

Synastry I use this aspect of astrology to figure out what are the areas of difficulty and comfort you can expect with another person, whether that’s a relative, colleague, business partner or romantic/life partner.  I do need as much birth data of the people involved (birth date, birth time and city (not parish for Caribbean friends) as possible. For couples, I have a unique way of calculating your compatibility by evaluating five areas of life and assigning a numerical value from 1-5 (based on astrological configurations), 1 for low favorability and 5 for high favorability.  Those five areas are: temperament, communication, sexuality, purpose and daily living.

  • Temperament is an ancient way of understanding the fundamental make-up of a person using four different types: Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic and Phlegmatic. Most people are never any one particular type, but a mix. I evaluate how different mixtures may match between people.
  • Communication is how two people establish rapport, understanding and relay information. Here are some sample questions and issues that astrology can highlight: Is there real rapport, or are they talking at cross-purposes? Is the communication direct or hard to pin down?
  • Sexuality is a close look at whether there’s real sexual compatibility from an astrological point of view.
  • Purpose is when I evaluate a fundamental question: why has the Cosmos brought you two together? I’ve seen a range of reasons: sexual allure, even obsession; a working relationship with a dash of romance; a romance with visions of a working partnership; or a relationship so hard to define that it seems as if it’s from a previous lifetime. There’s no way to strictly apply a type of relationship here, so I consider a range of factors to evaluate if a sense of purpose speaks sharply, as in a “5” rating, or not much at all, at a “1.”
  • Daily living is most important in understanding whether a couple can find a measure of ease in how they get along daily or in sharing a living space. This area and its score usually prove crucial in understanding how the couple will experience both its present and its future.
  • Then I take the average of the scores for those five areas to give a percentage of compatibility between the couple.

A word about compatibility: my cumulative percentage does not dictate whether a couple can be or should be together. That’s up to y’all and the Cosmos. My scores are commentary on what makes this relationship hard or easy based on five areas or factors. How you apply that knowledge to improve or maintain is totally up to you. Another word about compatibility: I can look at compatibility between anything that has a birth chart, including you and your pet pig. However, I may not look at the same areas, if it’s not a romantic relationship, as you most likely have a different set of intentions.

Astro-locality Using astrology, we can discover which countries, cities, areas of a city or a region that would work best with your chart. It’s compatibility applied to spaces instead of other people. Many people who think about where to vacation or to relocate benefit from using this form of astrology. For this kind of consultation, I need the names of 1-10 of the locations that you’d like to have evaluated for your own personal connection to those places. Also have in mind your intention(s) for the places you’d like to have evaluated, that is in terms of career, love, comfort, relaxation, or inspiration, for example.  I don’t do blanket evaluations for the entire globe, like “Where in the world would I be happy?” In a consultation, I can use any of these forms of astrology to help you.

Two kinds of consultations

I currently have two kinds of consultations:  a partial and a full consultation. Full Consultation comes with:

  • An hour long session that’s recorded in a mp3 format for you to download onto your favorite mp3 player

button (1)

Partial Consultation is:

  • 30 minutes to explore a question, issue or area of life that’s pressing.
  • Unrecorded, but you’re welcome to take notes or record on your own.

Generally, I recommend 60 minute sessions for evaluation of your natal chart, especially if it’s your first time. This way there’s enough time to evaluate your natal chart AND what’s happening now and in the near future. I also advise full, 60 minute sessions if you want to combine a few different forms of astrology, like your natal chart with astro-locality or a horary question—even if we’ve had a previous session together. If you know that there’s only one issue or form of astrology you want to use, a 30 minute session is usually more than enough time.

Where are you located?

I do phone consults, regardless of whether you’re in NYC or elsewhere. However, if you’d like to visit me for the consult, I am located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, along the “A” and “C” train lines. I am equidistant from the Utica Avenue stop (A,C) or the Kingston-Throop stop (C). I can send you specific directions to my place once we’ve confirmed our consultation. At my place, I do have two cats. I have a HEPA filter on my vacuum to catch much of the dander. They’re usually not in the room during the consult, but if you have a severe allergy to cats, please let me know.  We can make other arrangements.

Are there any extra fees?

  • $25 fee for housecalls in Manhattan. Generally, I don’t do housecalls in any of the outerboroughs unless it is within half mile of my place.
  • $25 reschedule fee for a cancellation or no-show within 24 hours of appointment.
  • $25 late fee, if later than 15 minutes for the appointment.
  • $75 to rectify your chart, as described above.

How do I pay you?

If you’re booking a phone consult and you’re not paying by credit card, I will need a check or money order to be mailed to me in time enough to clear in my bank account before the appointment.  If you send cash, then we’re automatically cleared to proceed with the consultation as scheduled.  I will supply my mailing address at the time we book the appointment.  Otherwise, I can accept cash, credit, paypal, a check or money order at the time of the appointment. With phone orders, I usually put the credit card through first and have the receipt emailed to you.

How often do I need to consult with you?

Generally, I recommend that clients consult with me every 6 months. There are occasions when you may have a pressing question or issue, but I find it rare that if you have a full consult with me that you’d need another one within 6 months.  Likewise, I wouldn’t think it financially prudent to have more than two partial consults within 6 months, regardless of what forms of astrology I used.  Of course, it’s up to you, and I’m happy to oblige if time and space permit.

If you have any additional questions that I’ve not answered, please don’t hesitate to call me or write me.  I often can respond to emails faster than voicemail messages, but I understand if the phone proves easier to reach out.  I look forward to consulting with you as astrology has taught one very valuable lesson: everything happens in Divine time and order.
