Desiree Mwalimu is an artist, writer, curator, and sacred sexuality practitioner whose work explores the collapse between the boundaries of art and life. She weaves together her passion for narratives of women in the African Diaspora with contemporary visual art and global anthologies of the Sacred Feminine. Through education, research, exhibition and tantric practice, Desiree investigates Afro-Futurist thought, eroticism, and the politics of performance as points of inquiry into the complex identities of women of African descent.
Desiree was a presenter for Relax, Relate, Release, a Brooklyn-based, annual women’s health and wellness expo in 2013, and co-presenter for the ‘Alchemy of Sex & Spirit’, a workshop for the Caribbean Cultural Center Roots & Stars Salon Series in 2012. She has served as a guest lecturer for Manhattanville Purchase College’s Undergraduate Interfaith Studies Division from 2007-2011 and her recent article ‘Tantric Love’ was published in Heart & Soul Magazine’s July/August 2013 issue. She is a contributor for the newly debuted Sensheent Magazine which explores women’s relationships to sex and sexuality.
Desiree is the proud mother of two sons and two Brooklyn-based homebirths. She lives and works in New York City.
