Standing in Your Power

weekly horoscopes, horoscopes, 2017 horoscopes, monthly horoscopes, Mercury, Mars, conjunction, Sun, Saturn, square, last quarter moon, power, standing in power

Quicksilver Mercury and explosive Mars team up by conjunction again on Saturday afternoon. They last paired up on Sept. 3rd when both planets were in fiery Leo. That’s the weekend that North Korea detonated its first hydrogen bomb. I personally remember that as a pretty angsty and agitated weekend too. In fact, one of the reasons why I dubbed that week’s horoscopes “triggered” was because of hair-trigger connection between Mars and Mercury.

Things will be slightly different this week, though. Both planets are in thorough Virgo now. What’s more, Mercury is moving direct and picking up speed as a morning star and in one of his own signs. As a ruler of Virgo, he feels more at home than he felt in Leo. He’ll be connecting to Mars on more of his own terms. He’ll be standing in his own power. We can do the same.

That’s likely to project a more proactive, analytical, and solutions oriented Mercury than the last time. There is, of course, a downside to that. Many could become so excited by the multiple ways to analyze something that they’re tempted to tackle all those possibilities. Simplify and set priorities.

The tense square between the creative Sun and controlled Saturn can help with that. But the tension to stay on point and honor the creative expression of the moment is a lot to hold together. With creative expression, we often find someone’s ego. Frequently, egos want to be right rather than do right. To do right requires trust and patience. It means that we must have faith in ourselves, God, our community, our ideals…something larger than the moment. We can’t be reactive. Yet we also can’t fail to respond.

It might help to think back to what was happening with you around September 3rd. Where and how were you too caught up in the moment? How might have you been putting the cart before the horse? With this new alliance between Mercury and Mars, you have another shot with a more disciplined horse and a sturdier cart. Yet, you still must lay down a smoother and clearer path. Note: not paths. Yes, you could make a mistake in direction. We talked about that last week. But follow-up is critical. You’ll make a bigger mistake from a paralysis of analysis.

If instead you are rooted in what sustains your creative expression for the long haul, then your choices will be clear. When you’re reactive or impulsive, then something or someone else has more power over you. Your true power always comes from what’s invested deeply in you and what you’ve built within over time. Stand in that.

Read on for the SkyCodes for your particular moon, ascendant, Sun or key planet of your chart.

VIRGO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

Simplicity is not self-denial. Self-deprecation is a good way to deflect attention. But it’s a piss poor way to honor your true worth. All discipline doesn’t have to be an exercise in humiliation. Or allowing someone else to humiliate you. In other words, stop picking up your cross and bearing it. You also don’t have to hang on any or crucify anyone else. Or be the resurrected king. Just be you as much as possible. You’ll have more of yourself and other tasks to work on soon. You’re enough.

Affirmation:
I am enough. And will produce even more of my resplendent self in time.

LIBRA
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

It’s all about knowing the right things to say aloud rather than feeling you should say anything. You’ll best find this wisdom by ruminating through your thoughts alone. Often, you might not know how you feel about an issue until you’re pressed to weigh in. But that doesn’t mean you have to wait for someone else to do that. You can practice that on your own. And chances are you will have to speak up for yourself or on some thorny issue. A practiced answer still moist with your honest feelings will do best. An unpracticed one might be dripping with too much.

Affirmation:
I quiet into my own wisdom for what’s right to say and when.

SCORPIO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

You probably didn’t have to hear from the Shakespeare to be neither a borrower or lender. Of course, you’d rather be a lender. But you’d also rather live in a world where you didn’t have to owe or be owed. Yet, life’s currency is often hard trade. We’re all interdependent with others. It’s nearly unavoidable. Don’t carry your need for self-reliance too far. Check your pride. Give or get the help that’s needed. You’re an important chain in a long set of links. Don’t break it for your ego’s sake.

Affirmation:
I am interdependent with others without fear of dependency.

SAGITTARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

Sabr is one of the Arabic words for patience. But it also can mean perseverance. You’re called on to have both, though you might not know why. Like Rilke says, sometimes you have to live the questions until you find your way to the answers. But that doesn’t mean you must go through life wielding a big question mark. No, you have a chance to sharpen and drill down the questions. You get to use them more like shuriken than a bulky broadsword. Much like how you must do it when you play Twenty Questions. Remember, though, that you can’t rush any faster to the answers than by the quality of the questions.

Affirmation:
I sharpen the questions as I search for the answers.

CAPRICORN
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

One of your regular founts of wisdom might seem to dry up and this frustrates and disappoints you. But you’re probably missing the key point. You’re renewing your sources of insight and wisdom. Finding that “still small voice” of inspiration and wisdom often requires you to be in, well, still quiet places yourself. Otherwise, you can’t get thunderous insight from the mountaintop for yourself or others. (Okay, it might not be thunderous. And it doesn’t need to be. It only needs to be clear and actionable. You’ll get that.

Affirmation:
I carve out time and space to hear my own still small voice.

AQUARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

We probably don’t manage tantrums well collectively. We either feel we must shame a person having one. Or feel ashamed for it. There’s no doubt they’re not pleasant to watch. And they’re usually abusive to someone or worse. But they’re instructive, too. That’s why I want you to learn from yours if you have one this week. You’re due. Tantrums usually point to how we feel drained and then frustrated by the drain. They’re not only about NOT getting what you want. It can be the fallout of never feeling heard or acknowledged as you ask for what you want. Or the balloon pop of lost faith in the goodness of life. Once you know and feel the drain, then you can change things. So, allow yourself to feel and hear the message. Without making a mess or ass of yourself.

Affirmation:
I greet my hot outbursts as parts of myself left too long in the cold.

PISCES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

No need to break down a metaphorical door when you can turn a knob. You need only take the time to see it. That’s a general sentiment with opportunities and important relationships. Don’t let your frustration or impatience get the best of you. First, keep the faith that you can make progress with a tricky situation. That faith will keep your eyes open when you’re inclined to think brawn or breaking a run are the only options. Lastly, don’t be intimidated by a daunting challenge. Start with your goal in mind. Work backward on what steps you must take to rise to the challenge, bit by bit.

Affirmation:
I have faith in good things working out incrementally in bad situations.

ARIES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

It’s awesome when principles and theories line up with practice and common sense. But, as you know, this isn’t always the case. Many bright ideas blow out from real world wattage. That doesn’t mean you should ignore ideals, principles, or theories, though. You generally like the idea of staying open to possibilities. Yet not all possibilities are likely ones. So, you have a balancing act to strike. Work more on what’s probable. Yet, keep an eye out for creative flourishes that can enliven what’s become too familiar and humdrum.

Affirmation:
I stay practical yet I keep an eye out for new ideas and principles to improve what and how I do things.

TAURUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

Earning is different from deserving, even though many use the terms interchangeably. Deserving implies that there’s a universal and clear standard for measuring a value. But deep down inside you know that’s not true. Earning means you meet a clear challenge and reward. If you work hard, you earn a vacation. Deserving could be too arbitrary a measure. After all, couldn’t you deserve a vacation for just showing up to work? Be sure you’ve earned the rewards and pleasures you seek now. You don’t want to claim too little or too much. Otherwise, you could impulse shop your way into debt and headache that you don’t deserve.

Affirmation:
I earn the pleasure I enjoy.

GEMINI
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

Criticism framed as “constructive feedback” is always a hot potato. Who decides when the feedback is offered or received? And who decides how and if it’s constructive? You might ponder those questions before you toss (or catch) any. If you’re giving feedback, are you doing it to feel your own power or to help develop someone else’s? If you’re on the receiving end, there’s a similar question. Authority has the word “author” in it for a reason. We’re all writing our own stories and tickets. We’re not all editors for each other, though. Choose well how you give or receive anyone’s edits.

Affirmation:
I wisely choose when and how “constructive feedback” works in my life.

CANCER
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Moon in birth chart

In his thought-provoking article, “The ‘Busy’ Trap,” Tim Kreider, says, “But I would suggest that an ideal human life lies somewhere between…defiant indolence and the rest of the world’s frenetic hustle.” So, you don’t have to slow your life to a snail’s crawl. But don’t fool yourself into thinking that busy means being more productive and successful. You’re likely to miss something (or someone) in a rush to get elsewhere or to another thing. That probably defeats the reason why you’re busy in the first place. Instead, greet any obstacles as a chance to pause, not a challenge to speed through.

Affirmation:
I am active about my business rather than busy about my activity.

LEO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Sun in birth chart

Millennia later I still appreciate the sly wisdom of Jesus’ response to his detractors: “Give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” Of course, no one’s bound to give to either. But this wise retort can remind you not to confuse the value of one thing with another. High praise from someone for you or what you’ve done belongs to that person. You can honor the praise as much as you honor the person. The same for anyone’s criticism. But the real currency of your self-worth is decided by what’s in the Reserve Bank of your own soul.

Affirmation:
My soul’s own value sets the currency exchange of every criticism or compliment from others.
