Rooted, Gripped down and Awakened.

Tis truly a season for renewal! Tonight’s New Moon seals the deal. Last Saturday’s cazimi Venus testifies that spring is truly in the air. I wrote about that here. But what do we really do with all of this renewing energy?

Venus gives a clue when she becomes a morning star this week and spins back into Pisces from Aries on Sunday. Sometimes the road forward takes us backward. That also reminds me of a line from a poem my pastor friend (same as mentioned in Saturday’s Venus post) sent to our Kabbalah group recently:

“Still, the profound change has come upon them: rooted, they grip down and begin to awaken” –From William Carlos Williams “Spring and All”

For instance, some are giddy by what appears to be a recent political victory. They should ground that giddiness without settling into a grind. Work that giddiness into stronger togetherness. Or to make the focus more personal, let’s say you’re starting a new job soon. Get a jump on being rooted by reading any procedure manuals or HR materials.

In other words, change has come. Now, nurture it. Make it your own. Bring it closer to you. Resting on your laurels will win you no contests in the near future. Like Williams’ wild carrot leaves of that poem, you begin to awaken more of your potential in the rooting and gripping down. As next week’s retrograde mania takes hold, with Saturn and Mercury joining Venus, we’ll all have many opportunities to root even deeper.

Read on for the SkyCodes for your particular moon, ascendant, Sun or key planet of your chart.

ARIES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

Don’t worry: spring is not cancelled. And maybe weather wise, it’s only delayed. Yet, none of that really matters from your perspective. In your personal circle of colleagues or friends, you feel like you bring the power of spring anyway. And that’s not delusional. But setting up a new season isn’t as easy you remembered it before. Don’t take the drag to getting things in motion personally. Though don’t use that as an excuse to drag your ass. Be respectfully impatient. That means you’re patient enough not to be a bore. But impatient enough to keep yourself and others motivated.

Affirmation:
I keep my fiery energy steady and moderate to keep the pressure on for others and myself.

TAURUS

One of my favorite funny phrases from my Black American culture is, “Fixin’ or Fittin’ to be ready.” It means you’re gearing up for an activity. But you’re not quite ready to be fully involved in whatever you have to do. The whole week, no matter what you’re doing, might feel like this. That’s okay if you only have to operate on your time. Yet, you likely have to keep up to someone else’s standard. There’s no use in anyone telling you to rush. BUT you might think ahead about which elements of your fixin’ can be tightened up or be done another time. Prioritize, plan, and then prepare to be ready. Oh, and yeah, then be ready.

Affirmation:
I plan wisely how I’m ready to be active and accessible to others.

GEMINI
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

A friend, near, distant, or only known on social media, might be a beacon of hope and inspiration for you. You, in turn, catch the fire and can return the flavor to others. Yes, that’s right: flavor. You’re bound to start doing more of what you do best by spicing things up. Don’t be shy about it. You’ve been wanting to do it. You perhaps even need to do it. It’s reasonable to fear overdoing it. That’ll only happen if you spread yourself too wide or dash everywhere. Instead, stick to one (okay, two!) places or groups where you can liven things up. No one will be sorry, especially you.

Affirmation:
I limit where I apply my flavor with others, but not my flavor itself.

CANCER

Slowly reveal your future plans. In fact, don’t tell. Show. Let your actions speak far louder and clearer than your words. No need to be tactless, though. Do your best to be as diplomatic yet with as much flourish as possible. Soften your punches. But, uh, yeah, deliver that punch. That’s why you don’t want to run your mouth more than your hands or feet. The temptation toward idleness is too great. And what doesn’t become laziness could become just hype. Or a string of promises that you might want to keep but can’t.

Affirmation:
I tactfully show my badassness.

LEO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Sun in birth chart

You might start having some of those thoughts again. You know, the thoughts you might have had a few weeks ago when you were thinking about all the ish that could go wrong. Maybe some things actually did go wrong. But what makes human beings so amazing in the natural world is our ability to imagine new outcomes from old and even painful experiences. You can and will create more of the life you desire now. Even when things don’t appear to be going your way, you can still steer things in your favor. If only by a little. Patience and consistency can help with the rest.

Affirmation:
I learn what works to heal my wounds faster and better only by risking hurt in the first place.

VIRGO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mercury in birth chart

The idea of the apocalypse has never done much good for the world. Mostly because “the end” doesn’t come at all. And it’s never as total as anyone imagines it. Think about that when you’re entertaining worst-case scenarios. What would work better is if we learned to use calamity as an invite to envision the worst to make things better. For example, Harvard started as a school to prepare ministers for what some believed would be the end of the world at the time. Now, it’s one of the leading colleges in the world. Think beyond whatever you see NOW as the end and you probably will see something way cooler and better.

Affirmation:
I learn to see endings as beginnings not yet fully imagined or realized.

LIBRA
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Venus in birth chart

Burying yourself in your work or laboring over details in your routine can be one way to avoid thorny issues in a relationship. You’ll know you’re doing this when you’re spending more hours at the office or with a project and zero time to answer a particular person’s text or email. Chances are it would be easier (and quicker) to address that person’s queries than you suspect. But your own resistance makes the problem bigger than it is. So, yes, think about a proper response. But not too much. Study long, and you’ll probably answer “wrong.” Wrong in this case means not the direct and clearest truth. But don’t think you can work away a problem.

Affirmation:
I directly engage the issues and problems I’m having with someone significant.

SCORPIO
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Mars in birth chart

Joy is a term not ascribed enough to your sign. Perhaps that’s because you dwell on life only being worth it when there’s a struggle. You usually have an inherent distrust of anything that smacks of the path of least resistance. Maybe you think something crazy: that the struggle makes you worthy of the reward. But perhaps the truth is joy can be felt in the struggle AND the reward. What makes the struggle or the work lovable isn’t the work itself. It’s keeping your heart fixed on what you love most. Without the distraction of what you don’t. Without the distraction of fearing loss. Without the distraction of craving reward alone. As Rumi says, “Let beauty of what you love be what you do.” That’s the path to joy.

Affirmation:
I live the love of what I do and can feel the joy of it now.

SAGITTARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

Simple pleasures will ease off the pressure to be at the top of your game. You’ll need the grounding of commonplace indulgences to nurture you while you nurture long-term plans and projects to fruition. Don’t feel guilty about spending extra time in the sauna at the gym. Or if you’re more inclined to soak in one more episode of your favorite show rather than hop right back into work. Modest distractions can keep you attracted to your passions and on point.

Affirmation:
I indulge in simple pleasures to ease up high-end pressures.

CAPRICORN
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

You likely begin to unpack some of the repressed feelings you had a few months ago. Some of these will feel easy to manage. But others might not. Your impulse will likely be to steer away from them with work or busyness. Or to distract yourself with other desires that you know are way safer and superficial. Talking things through with someone who’s emotionally available to hear you will help. You can also work through these feelings by writing them out, even if only to yourself. What’s key is to address your sensations somehow. Not too deeply. But enough to feel the dew of these unsettled emotions.

Affirmation:
I unpack repressed feelings by talking about them, somehow.

AQUARIUS
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Saturn in birth chart

This New Moon is bound to affect how you connect with others about your passions. You likely feel a push to refine how you frame what you discuss with others. You also might think more about how you get about and can improve your commute or ways of communication. Only makes sense since we’re about a week from Mercury’s retrograde. Don’t get too caught up in thinking, though. Otherwise, you’ll end up spinning your wheels and gaining no traction. Plot a course, and then see how well that path or new approach suits you once you’re on it. The Mercury retrograde will help you re-route if it doesn’t work for you.

Affirmation:
I am open to course corrections with how I connect with others and go about my daily life.

PISCES
Moon, ascendant, Sun or strong Jupiter in birth chart

The kindness and gentleness that you perhaps extended to others last week takes on a sharper and clearer meaning for you. Treat yourself to something that spruces up your appearance. It doesn’t need to be expensive. But pay attention to what makes you feel uncomfortable about doing this. That’s probably a clue that you’re on the right track. If it’s no big deal for your budget to spend money on a new outfit, what happens in your mind when you think to buy three or four more? You don’t necessarily have to buy that number. You could decide even to buy more. Yet, why and how are you denying the pleasure of adorning (and adoring) yourself with new things or in new ways? That’s what’s most important to explore and challenge now.

Affirmation:
I challenge myself to renewed and different ways of appearing to others.
